About the Angelus

The Angelus is a traditional Catholic devotion commemorating the Incarnation — the moment when the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us. It consists of three verses and responses, each followed by the Hail Mary, and concludes with a collect. It is traditionally prayed three times daily at the ringing of the Angelus bell: at morning, noon, and evening.

During Eastertide (from Easter Sunday to the Saturday before Trinity Sunday), the Regina Caeli is prayed in place of the Angelus, celebrating the Resurrection of Our Lord.

"The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary, and she conceived of the Holy Spirit." — The opening verse of the Angelus
