Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Angelus?

The Angelus is a traditional Catholic devotion commemorating the Incarnation of Our Lord. It is prayed three times daily — at morning, noon, and evening — traditionally at the ringing of the Angelus bell. The prayer consists of three verses and responses, each followed by the Hail Mary, and concludes with a collect.

What is the Regina Caeli?

During Eastertide (from Easter Sunday through the Saturday before Trinity Sunday), the Church replaces the Angelus with the Regina Caeli ("Queen of Heaven"), a joyful antiphon celebrating the Resurrection. The app automatically detects the liturgical season and presents the appropriate prayer.

Which liturgical calendar does the app follow?

The app follows the pre-1955 traditional Roman calendar, which preserves the full richness of the Church's liturgical year: Septuagesima, Sexagesima, Quinquagesima, Ember Days, Rogation Days, and the traditional Octaves.

Which translation of the prayers does the app use?

The app uses the traditional English translation: "The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary," "Be it done unto me according to thy word," "Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace."

Can I adjust the prayer times?

Yes. While the traditional hours are 6 AM, noon, and 6 PM, the prayer times can be adjusted in Settings. You may also enable or disable individual prayer times as your circumstances require.

How do the notifications work?

The app schedules local notifications at your configured prayer times. These are scheduled entirely on your device — no server is involved. You may set an advance reminder (for example, five minutes before) and choose your preferred notification sound in Settings.

What languages are available?

The prayer text is available in English, Spanish, French, and Latin. Latin is the original language of the Angelus and is especially recommended for those who wish to pray the devotion in its traditional form. The language can be changed in Settings.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. The app works entirely offline. No internet connection is needed. All prayer texts and data are stored locally on your device.

Does the app track my prayer life?

The app keeps a quiet, private record of your prayer completions — available if you wish to review it, but never thrust forward. There are no social features, no public sharing, and no external data collection.

Is my data private?

Completely. Simple Angelus collects no data at all. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no network requests. All data is stored locally on your device and never leaves it. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I delete my data?

Since all data is stored locally, you can delete it by uninstalling the app or clearing the app's data in your device settings (Settings > Apps > Angelus > Clear Data on Android, or delete and reinstall on iOS).

What is the guided prayer with speech feature?

The optional guided prayer mode uses your device's speech recognition to follow along as you pray aloud, highlighting each section as you progress through the prayer. All processing happens on-device — no audio is recorded or transmitted. This requires microphone permission, which you may grant or deny at any time.

Is the app truly free?

Yes. Simple Angelus is completely free and always will be. There are no ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, and no donation prompts.
